Going beyond the final frontier: Star trek’s reboot

The new Trek movie has engaged the warp drive and beamed the general public aboard -i have no idea what ive just said there. But we do know that the new movie has managed to get people interested again in the adventures of Kirk and Spock. Does the $73 million dollars that the film made in the opening weekend suggests that the franchise is back from out of space?

The film takes alook at a time where Kirk has just joined Starfleet and is nowhere even close to being captain of the enterprise. We are re-introduced again to the original crew- Spock, Dr McCoy and Mr Sulu. We also get a suprise cameo from one of the old members of the enterprise to reveal a plot twist, but im not going to ruin that here. The reboot brings the Star Trek franchise back to life, as for awhile there hasnt been any TV shows or a movie as interest in star trek appeared to be dwindling. With the last film made in 2002 and the word that a attempt to make another tv show of the series was cancelled, it can be said that the franchise was on the verge of being forgotten by movie studios. The recent movie has caused mutiny amongst the ranks, with some ‘trekkies’ not liking the added action over the plot, which is probably what is making it appeal to a wider audience. So what does the success of this prequel mean? The possiblity of this Star Trek crew making another movie, and maybe that canned tv show will be green lighted once again?

Most of the films humor comes from actor/writer of zombie comedy ‘Shaun of the dead’s Simon Pegg, playing engineer Scotty. So why has this movie brought the franchise back? Everyone knows the original crew for the most part, its been given a sense of humor and much more action than the original tv series -It seems to be everything that a summer blockbuster needs to be.
