At the theaters, it will be competing with Shrek Forever After, the fourth and last of the series. So far, the reviews have been somewhat positive, but kind of lukewarm.

Rotten Tomatoes gives MacGruber a score above 50 percent, but Kurt Loder of MTV is non-plussed.

Shrek Forever After is the fourth Shrek film, and it will be the last. Sequels tend to get repetitive, and Rotten Tomatoes gives a rating of just over 50 percent. Sequels can easily deflate a series, though some franchises are just lame in the crib to begin with. (For instance, Transformers.) However, it would appear that this final installment has one thing going for it, which is 3D. At least it might have good visuals, or Mise En Scene, as they say.
