A fictional cartoon character from the animated series SpongeBob SquarePants, Plankton owns a restaurant called the The Chum Bucket that makes the only competition of Mr. Krabs’ business in Bikini. The full name of this queer character is Shedon J. Plankton but it is only disclosed in the episode, Plankton’s Army. Not even his computer wife Karen knows the full name of her husband. When she finds out she laughs at Plankton, but without being mean. All throughout the series Plankton will try to get his hands on Mr. Krabs’ secret recipe.
Sheldon Plankton is the smallest of the characters in SpongeBob SquarePants, being able to fit into SpongeBob’s hand. This one-eyed zooplankter is easy to recognize by his voice too, that will surprise the first time viewer with its deep tonalities. In a funny episode, within an equally funny context, Plankton is very close to becoming Mr. Krabs’ stepfather: now, picture that! In the movie version of the animation, Plankton finally succeeds in stealing the Krusty Krabs’ secret recipe and he is the happiest zooplankter in the world. Unfortunately, SpongeBob ruins his dream of world domination.
The life goals of the character are definitely in clear contradiction with his appearance. Who would expect mighty things from the jelly green bean-shaped creature that is 99% evil and only 1% good. His repeated failures at stealing the Krabby Patty formula are caused by his over-haste and impatience. Sneaky and jealous, Plankton forgets that once, Mr. Krabs used to be his friend and the only one who didn’t laugh at him and protected him against the others. Plankton’s anger is often directed towards SpongeBob whom he thinks to be too silly and babyish, and who on top of everything has the privilege of knowing the ingredients of the Krabby Patty recipe.
We could say that there is no antagonist or villain in the SpongeBob SquarePants series other than Plankton. He makes all sorts of major plans to achieve his goals and usually gets to work with characters that are much stronger in terms of physical appearance; a very large ego surely hides in that tiny body of his. From a certain point of view, Plankton wins viewers over by his miserable failures at getting something that seems so important for him. No matter the way one feels towards this character it is obvious that he gives a grain of salt to the cartoon.
